Hey pILLOWpeeps,

Been awhile, missing you all and the stage so much! Bless those who attended our last show in January at The Studio/Webster Hall in NYC with some awesome old friends on the bill (Alex Kelly of course) and new ones too (yeah Dynasty Electric, Jadex & peeps). Since then Kelsey and Danos have been in the lab working on new material, Joaquin has been traveling and Bill has been spreading his drum love all over NYC and Boston. We’re hibernating but still busy behind the scenes.

We’ll return to the venues in a few months with some new sonic goodies for you! Yes Brooklyn, we will be playing the NORTHSIDE FESTIVAL 2013 in June which we’re excited about. Expect some cool treats between now and then. Gearing up for a Summer fun tour as well. Check out our Twitter & Facebook pages for more updates and everything you need to know regarding pILLOW.

NEW Deluxe Edition Of Our MELTDOWN Release is Available NOW!!!

Our Meltdown EP was originally self released last year, 2011. The Filter label now presents the new deluxe edition of Meltdown with extra songs, new art and enhanced sound.

Kelsey, Slim Willy & Ron St Germain were behind production for the original. The new release also welcomes the sonics of Emanuel Ruffler better known as Rufftone (“Subway”), Mike Genato of RVRS:PLAY (“Miscommunication”) and Denise Barbarita (“Subway” & “Miscommunication”). Longtime pILLOW drum soldier Scott Garapolo plays on “Miscommunication” and Rich Kulsar plays on “Subway”. Pascal Schonegg is the man responsible for the awesome new cover art!

First, Kelsey will be lending his voice to the BAD BRAINS tribute TONIGHT, Election Day Tuesday November 6 at Bowery Electric on the Lower East Side. Great band (Vernon Reid of Living Colour, Mackie of Cro-Mags, Melvin Gibbs) and an awesome line up of revolving vocalists: Jesse Leach of Killswitch Engage, Kyp Malone of TV On The Radio, Jesse Malin, H.R. himself of Bad Brains and many surprise guests! Thank you so much for your support and good vibes this summer. Haven’t been here for awhile so let’s play catch up.

If you attended the BAM, Gibson and multiple Mercury Lounge performances in NYC then we appreciate your presence! If not, then we hope to see you at our CMJ showcase at Bowery Electric in October.

At the last Mercury show 2 weeks ago we performed some new material so you know what that means…Yes, we’re gearing up for a new album to be released next year. But before that, our critically acclaimed EP MELTDOWN will be re-released November 5th via Europe’s FILTER label with some extra spices on it. We are so looking forward to this and hope that you are too. FILTER recently released electro sensation LITTLE BIRDS’s new single and EP with remixes of “THE STRUGGLE OF DISTANCE” featuring pILLOW’s Kelsey on vocals. You can find that on iTunes and pretty much any cool internet store of your liking.

Shortly after the release we will hit the NE for a short tour which we haven’t done in awhile. Definitely looking forward to invading your city! Until then, be on the lookout for sporadic solo Kelsey shows like the upcoming one in Harlem at SHRINE on Labor Day. Kristi Martel is also on the bill. Shes sounds lovely!!!

Not too surprised but it’s more like a “lowest of low” or “last straw” situation. REGARDLESS of your opinion of him or his presidency, Obama finally put his support of gay marriage on blast! This is again a pretty historic moment and day, especially after the NC situation. However, probably the worst excuse for a ‘news’ station, FOX twists this with the stupid, BIASED, childish headline “Obama Flip Flops, Declares War On Marriage.” I don’t really expect anything of substance or close to fairness with this channel (neither do a large number of conservatives actually) and I understand it has a “reality tv” type of quality which can be humorous at times, but this is really a shame (almost as low as Hannity’s anti-Trayvon mission but I spoke about that previously). It really shouldn’t be a conservative vs. liberal issue in my opinion. This is about the rights of PEOPLE, point blank. If it’s not for you then don’t get married to a gay person but why would you want to censor the rights of other PEOPLE? Live your own life and stop trying to keep enforcing these 1864 laws against human beings. Hell the people that support the views of this channel probably wouldn’t have invited me over for dinner 30 years ago or want me to get married to ANYONE (you know where I’m going with this obviously)! I can’t see how anyone can reach for some kind of “decent reason” why FOX Nation is a credible source of unbiased, non racist, non sexist, non homophobic news. I wrote a shorter version of this on my personal page and hesitated putting this on the band page due to the political nature and/or the risk of alienating fans. Then I realized, we don’t want to have anything to do with racist, sexist or homophobic people anyway! So there you go! Sorry, yes I said it with my liberal and conservative point of view! Have a great hump day and celebrate intelligent freedom of expression!!!

Mika Kenyah of Sugar & Spikes fame directed and Bandit23 edited the thing! We’re super proud of the result and you will be too.

kELSEY: The Insane English Nazi

Hey there! So Sunday night I was going back and forth between Twitter and Facebook (as well as texting) during the Grammy show. I’m not a huge Grammy or award show freak but it’s fun, light entertainment that I don’t take to seriously. I was very proud that Adele and Foo Fighters won the most awards so there’s hope! Plus, Dave gave the best speech of the night ,represented a SLAYER shirt and even mixed it up with Deadmau5! Also proud that Skrillex and Bon Iver got their props too.

Anyway, a FB friend posted praise for Dave Grohl winning best rock performance. He alsomentioned Foo Fighters were the ONLY rock band in the category which also included Radiohead, Coldplay, Decemberists and Mumford & Sons. My friend also resorted to calling all those bands except for the Foos as “shitty.” I don’t think that’s particularly cool but I get it and understand where he is coming from. He’s absolutely right about questioning these groups being in the “rock” category. On the flip side, as much as I love the Foos, I thought it was a bit strange they won the metal award over Megadeth, Dream Theatre and my boys Mastodon but the Academy hardly ever gets that award right. Mastodon lost to Slayer a few years but that makes sense – they’re both widely regarded metal bands. I personally think they should have won the metal award this year. The Hunter is one of the best albums of 2011! The point is there are some strange nominee flaws in the rock category and winning outcome in the metalcategory but we all have our own opinions at the end of the night.

The fun part! I’m a HUGE Radiohead fan. I love their old and new material. I’m definitely not one of those people who just like the “old” Radiohead and feel they’re too strange because they’ve expanded their sound and their melodies have become a bit more abstract. If you want safe melodies and safe sonics then listen to Coldplay! I commented on my friend’s thread that “Radiohead is cool.” A girl responded “not” and another guy said “Can’t stand Coldplay…And Radiohead used to be good…don’t know what happened”. I know what happened; they took their sound to the next level and grew as artists. Sigh, people are so afraid of progress and change in art. So obviously, I’m not too popular on this thread.

So the third guy responds to me, and I quote, (get this) “YOUR INSANE.” Now, I think that was a bit harsh especially since this guy has no idea who the f#@k I am. Even funnier, he writes “your” instead of “you’re.”

So, I’m laughing because it’s an open shot for a funny comment on my side, of course. It’s too easy, right? So I respond “I’m not THAT insane. I know how to spell you’re.” My friend, the main guy with the page clicks a “like” on my response. I could have said a lot worse but I thought that was pretty funny and safe. I guess the anti-Radiohead guy didn’t take a liking to my comment though. He then responded, “nothing quite like a grammar nazi insult to get my blood boiling.” Wow, really? I’m a Nazi now? Obviously, this guy can dish it out but he can’t take it?

I responded one last time with “I’m not a grammar nor Radiohead Nazi. Just pointed out the mistake, especially if you are going to call people names.” Again, I could have said a lot worse! I won’t mention what I really wanted to write but let’s just say the word “dumb-ass” is included.

In my opinion, I did him a favor. Next time he proceeds to insult someone (especially a person who he does not know at all,) hopefully he’ll check what he’s saying so he doesn’t embarrass himself. But then I started thinking, am I really a grammar Nazi? I may answer “yes” if you’re an asshole to me like the anti-Radiohead dude! Honestly, I don’t think so. I make plenty of mistakes and take responsibility when I do. Hell, there may be a few in this blog. I’m not perfect and wasn’t trying to be snobby. If he was nice about the conversation, I would not have pointed out his error. What do you think? I’m opening the floor for comments. Regardless, I thought it was pretty funny and wish the guy well. Just learn how to spell before you criticize another person. You never know…someone might blog about it!
